Morocco eVisa: Requirements, Eligibility & How to Apply

Morocco has become one of the most popular short-break destinations in North Africa, and for many travellers the first practical question is whether they need a visa – and if so, how to get one without visiting a consulate. Since July 2022 Morocco has offered an electronic visa (eVisa) for short visits, which eligible travellers can apply for entirely online. Quick answer: the Morocco eVisa is an online, single-entry visa for short visits, available to eligible nationalities and to travellers holding a qualifying visa or residence permit. It must be arranged before departure – Morocco has no general visa on arrival.

What is the Morocco eVisa?

The Morocco eVisa is an official electronic visa issued by the Moroccan authorities for short stays. Instead of booking an appointment at a consulate and receiving a sticker in your passport, you complete the application online, upload your supporting documents, pay the fee and receive the visa by email. Three characteristics define the eVisa and are worth understanding before you apply:

• Single entry. The eVisa allows one entry into Morocco. Once you leave, it is used up, even if time remains on it.
• Stay of up to 30 days. Counted from the day you enter Morocco.
• Validity of 180 days. You must enter Morocco within 180 days of the eVisa’s issue date. Validity and length of stay are two separate limits – the first is your deadline to arrive, the second is how long you may remain.

The eVisa is intended for short visits. If you plan to stay longer than 30 days, need to enter more than once, or are travelling for a purpose that requires a specific visa category, the eVisa is not the right document and a consular visa should be considered instead.

Morocco eVisa Eligibility: Who Can Apply?

Eligibility for the Morocco eVisa depends on two things: your nationality and the documents you hold. Every traveller falls into one of three situations.

1. Visa-exempt travellers

Nationals of a number of countries can enter Morocco for a short visit without any visa. If your nationality is visa-exempt, you do not need to apply for an eVisa at all – you simply travel with your passport. Applying for an eVisa in this situation is unnecessary.

2. eVisa-eligible travellers

Travellers in this group need a visa for Morocco but can obtain it online. There are two ways to qualify:

• By nationality. Citizens of the countries included in Morocco’s eVisa programme can apply directly.
• By a qualifying document. Travellers whose nationality alone does not qualify may still be eligible if they hold a valid residence permit or a valid entry visa issued by certain countries. This is sometimes called the conditional route. The document must be valid at the time of application and is uploaded as part of the file.

3. Travellers who need a consular visa

If neither of the routes above applies, a visa must be requested in person through a Moroccan embassy or consulate. Morocco does not offer a general visa on arrival, so the correct document must be arranged before departure.

Two further points apply to every eVisa applicant. First, only ordinary passports are accepted – holders of diplomatic or service passports cannot use the eVisa. Second, a small number of nationalities use a separate Electronic Travel Authorisation rather than the eVisa; this is a different product with its own rules. Because eligibility is confirmed for your exact case during the application – and before any payment is taken – you will know which situation you are in before committing.

Beyond being eligible, the requirements for a successful Morocco eVisa application are largely about consistency and passport validity.

• Legible scans. Uploaded files must be clear, complete and readable. Glare, shadows and cut-off edges can hold up an otherwise correct application.

Documents You Need for the Morocco eVisa

Have the following ready before you begin. Preparing everything in advance is the single easiest way to avoid a delayed application.

1. Ordinary passport meeting the validity requirement above.
2. Scan of the passport photo page – the full page, in focus, with all text and the machine-readable zone visible.
3. Passport-style photograph in the format indicated at the upload step.
4. Residence permit or entry visa – only if you qualify through a document you hold rather than by nationality. It must be valid when you apply.

Additional supporting documents may be requested during processing if the authorities require further verification, so keep copies of your travel arrangements accessible.

How to Apply for a Morocco eVisa

The Morocco eVisa application follows a straightforward sequence. Travel Entry’s role is to guide you through it, check your file for errors and inconsistencies before submission, and keep you informed until a decision is issued.

Step 1 – Confirm your eligibility

Check your nationality, country of residence, passport type and purpose of travel against the criteria above. This is confirmed for your specific case at the start of the application.

Step 2 – Complete the application form

Enter your personal, passport and travel details exactly as they appear in your passport. Take your time here: the details you enter are final once the application is submitted.

Step 3 – Upload your documents

Add your passport scan, photograph and – if you qualify through the conditional route – your residence permit or entry visa.

Step 4 – Pay the fee and submit

Step 5 – Processing and decision

Standard applications are typically processed within about 72 hours (one to three business days); Express applications within about 24 hours. These are estimates rather than guarantees – weekends, Moroccan public holidays and additional verification checks can extend them. Step 6 – Receive and print your eVisa

The eVisa is delivered by email. Download it, print a copy and carry it together with your passport. Airlines may ask to see it at check-in, and border officers will check it on arrival.

Important Conditions After Approval

An approved eVisa is a major step, but a few conditions continue to apply once it has been issued.

• Final decisions belong to the Moroccan authorities. Travel Entry prepares and submits applications; the decision to grant or refuse an eVisa is made by the relevant Moroccan authorities, and no assistance service can guarantee an outcome.
• An eVisa does not guarantee entry. Border control officers make the final decision on arrival and may refuse entry if the entry conditions are not met. Carry your passport, printed eVisa and supporting documents.
• Respect the 30-day limit. Overstaying can cause problems on departure and for future travel.
• Children need their own authorisation. Each traveller, including minors, requires an individual eVisa.
• Refunds are limited. Before submission an application can be cancelled and refunded in full. After submission the visa cost is non-refundable. If the application is refused, the service fee may be refunded on request within 30 days, provided the refusal was not caused by incorrect or incomplete information.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• Applying with a passport that expires within six months of your travel date.
• Typing a name, date of birth or passport number that differs from the passport – even by one character.
• Uploading a cropped, blurred or glare-affected passport scan.
• Applying under the conditional route with a residence permit or visa that has already expired.
• Leaving the application to the last moment and relying on the fastest estimate.
• Planning a second entry on the same eVisa – it is single entry only.

How long is the Morocco eVisa valid?

You must enter Morocco within 180 days of the issue date. Once in the country, you may stay for up to 30 days on a single entry.

Can I extend my stay beyond 30 days?

The eVisa is designed for short visits of up to 30 days. Any extension or longer stay is a matter for the Moroccan authorities and is outside the scope of the eVisa itself; plan your trip within the permitted period.

Is the Morocco eVisa a multiple-entry visa?

No. It permits one entry. If you leave Morocco and wish to return, a new authorisation is needed.

How early should I apply?

Apply several days before departure at a minimum, and earlier during busy travel periods. Because the eVisa is valid for 180 days from issue, there is no disadvantage in applying well ahead of time.
